Yasmin considers herself a lifelong student. As such, she continuously studies the work of master Miniature painters, seeking to gain knowledge both in person and through the study of historic manuscripts. Yasmin's painting 'Ode to the Masters' is a painting which celebrates and acknowledges the work of her predecessors.
Painted using natural pigments such as malachite, indigo, yellow ochre, madder and cochineal. Ode to the Master's is a Timurid inspired, Persian Miniature painting of a Prince and Princess meeting for the first time. The artwork features gold detailing, and true to Yasmin's signature style, is painted on a textured, handmade paper which has been carefully chosen to complement and enhance the composition.
Yasmin's careful use of paper and unpainted space is a nod to the symbolism of the 'void.' The purpose of the void is to enhance the details within the work. It invites the audience to use their imagination to fill the remainder of space. To create a story that is the narration of the viewer and not of the artist. It is a technique which nods to the old Byzantine school of Miniature painting and one which Yasmin very much enjoys.
